There are many in Vientianne. I saw two in Luang Prabang, both on the main road that runs through town.

There are now 65 ATMs around Laos, mostly located in the major cities.

Banks can also do cash advances on your credit card as well.

Can you open a bank account in Laos in US Dollars? The kip has too many zeros for my peace of mind.

Most banks will allow you to open accounts in USD, Lao Kip or Thai Baht.

ANZ also allow you to have accounts in AUD, Japanese Yen and a couple of other currencies as well,

Yes you can open Bank Accounts in other denominations. Many banks allow you to do this. I have found BCEL to be a helpful and ok bank.

Personally I would not forgo one in Kip; the interest rates are much higher for Kip than for USD. This particularly holds true for longer term deposits.

Thanks for your input, Rufuscat... I%26#39;m prompted to ask if a high interest on Kip is due to rapid inflation of that curr. or the other way round. When I was in Ecuador savings interest was 15% because the sucre (?) was inflating by at least that, and monthly.

Tarafox20 - theres a new ATM in the new ANZ bank in Vnte where you can withdraw 2,000,000 kip at a time with a bank card. All the others only allow you to withdraw 700,000, or some 1,000,000.

Handy if you get charged per withdrawal by your home bank.
