Pakse .. I am looking for a bar that stays open past 10 pm!

I dont like the sex scene in Bangkok or Pattaya but I do like to have a drink and relax when Im on holiday in SE Asia. In my last trip to Pakse the town appeared to close down at 10pm. Perhaps it was where I was staying but even the hotel bar closed at that time. I am going there again in november. Does anyone know of a bar that at least stays open to midnight where we can have a drink and listen to music?

Hmmm...That%26#39;s a good question. Didn%26#39;t notice any bars per se, but whenever I%26#39;m in Pakse my friends and I just sit at those riverside restaurants, quaffing Beerlao. I think they pretty much shut down before 11:00pm...

I was hoping there may be something in the area close to the new bridge over the Mekong. Isnt there a hotel/casino complex going up?

Yeah, I cycled past that a few weeks ago but it looks like it wasn%26#39;t ready quite ready yet. Huge place, almost completed...You might check it out when you get there.

The hotel/casino has been completed and is advertising in the Vientiane Times. I would guess you could get a drink there.

What%26#39;s the name of that place? Could you post the website if it%26#39;s listed, Ron?

How easy is it to get to Luang Prabang from VTE? I only have three days brfore moving to Pakse so should I just spend the time in VTE?

It%26#39;s a 30-minute flight from VTE-LP. If you only have 3 days, stay in VTE. Nice city, lots to see and do. (And plenty of places to find a drink at night!)

ok, will do. Any recommendations for a hotel?

In VTE I always stay at Vayakorn Guesthouse, e-mail

vayakone@laotel.com

The place is immaculate (+ hot water shower, cable TV) and they have an excellent staff. 2-minute walk to the riverside. Doubles $23

I%26#39;ll post the name as soon as I get back from Khon Kaen.
