On arriving by boat from Luang Prabang to Houay Xai, and providing that we are in time to catch the ferry across to Chiang Khong, how does one get to Chiang Rai,a nd how much should it cost? thank you. gemmagee

I have booked a transfer through Asian Oasis who run the boat trip from Luang Prabang and they are charging $75 .I expect you could get it cheaper on the quayside but being prebooked saves the hassle/uncertainty.

there are regular bus services to chiang rai from chiang khong thruout the day. cost is about 250B ($8 USD). much cheaper than asian oasis.
