Thinking about a trip through laos to vietnam any suggestions of a route and places of interest along the way , i will use public transport and i am more interested in the countryside walking etc tthan cities

How long have you got in Laos? Public transport can be veeeery slow and also uncomfortable. Few flights, if any, to the remote spots, and 10-hour or longer bus rides might have to be endured unless you have the time to stop and stay between points.
