me and my girlfreind are planning a trip to laos vietnam cambodia, i am a fussy eater and was wondering what the food is like. and if western food is easily avaliable. we went to thailand + malaysia last year and found northern thais food really nice but not so nice in the south, also where would you advise to go or avoid

Western food is available in all three of those countries....but if you just want to eat Western food, you%26#39;re missing out on a big part of going to Asia. I suggest you step out of your comfort zone. Not all Asian food is hot and/or spicy.

Ditto what previous poster said. I just returned from 3 weeks in Laos traveling with Lao friends and we didn%26#39;t eat at a restaurant catering to falang (foreigners) once. Great street food, noodles, papaya salad, sticky rice, etc. The street food is much tastier than that of the restaurants catering to travelers, plus less than half the price! Cheers!

Why would you go to those countries and not want to eat local food? Asian food is so much nicer, tastier and healthier compared to boring old western food. Yes, just step out of your comfort zone and live a little.

You may be surprised just how wonderful you find it really is.

stay at home . why do people go to these lovely countries and want to eat kfc or mac ill never know

Heard a KFC opened in Vietnam last year, but still no Mac, thank goodness.

Agreed. Eating is half the joy. I havent been to Laos but Penang Nonya food is my choice for the best in the world!!

Another one bites the dust....

....was just in Phnom Penh last week and saw the new KFC...

I do agree..try the asian foods..not spicy one and you will be ok.

I%26#39;ve been going to SE asia for a few years now a couple times a year for 3 or 4 weeks at a time and I have to eat some western food once in a while to keep my stomach together, nothing like some kind of pasta dish or some potatoes to get things back in order and in Vientiane where I go why not expierience good French or Italian food for a cheap price, so althou I like Lao food Vientiane has a number of good options for other foods as well, outside of VTE, or LP the options are limited, but VTE you can get french, italian, japanese, chinese assie dishes, english pub, indian, korean BBQ, even a hamburger, good bakeries with euro style coffee and pastries, so if you are a picky eater you will be OK there, and if you do go out into some off the beaten track villages you have to remember that thier ice is probably locally made (tap water) it will give you some problems, commercial ice is cubed and local ice is chopped off a block so it looks more like shaved or broken off pieces, myself and my canadian friend had similar experiences at different times this time eating local food and drink in a small village and spending the next day paying for it so do what you need to do to have a good time if that means getting so food that you are use to do it and you%26#39;ll still have fun callao
