Spa in Luang Prabang

I am writing to warn everyone about Lotus Du Laos spa in Luang Prabang. It is located at a very popular spot on Thanon Sisavangvong at Ban Xieng Moanne. Since it is on this popular stretch, it attracts a lot of unsuspecting customers. This spa is run by untrained masseurs (I know as I am certified in Thai/Lao Massage) and is very, very dirty. the exterior looks alright but once you are inside, you will be shocked by the standards of hygiene. They do not seem to change any of the towels and sheets. The massage/ spa bed was very smelly and smelled like dozens have perspired on it! The staff do not seem to care at all and there are many who can be seen chatting outside. The massage was terrible, I actually felt ill after it. It was very ';anyhow'; and the masseur did not seem to understand the acu-points and meridiens which forms the basis of any Asian form of massage.

Please avoid this spa at all costs like a plague!

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. I was there in February and it was immaculate and the Lao massage was good - not as refined as Thai massage but still quite good.

Maybe things have disintegrated since.

If you go to the Red Cross, you can get a nice massage. It%26#39;s not upscale or anything but clean and the herbal sauna is relaxing and a good way to hang with the locals.

I agree about the negative report. My experience with the Lotus Spa ';luang prabang massage package'; was not good at all. The temperature of the oil was cold and of the massage room was equally cold and dirty. The steam was pretty grungy, the algae was frigid and they cover you with a wet towel, making the experience rather unpleasant.

On the other hand , 2 doors down, at the Spa Garden , everything was great. I had the best foot and leg massage .

I also have heard good things about the Kamu spa.

Stay away from the Lotus du Laos spa.

Wish I had read this before I went. On the outside it does look super cute but once I was in it was smelly and dirty and the masseuse was bad. I felt dirtier when I got out of their shower. I went two doors down to the other place and it was sensational.
