2 day stay in Vientiane

Hi All,

Any recommendations on what to see and do for a 2 day stay in Vientiane?

Cheers,

Stewie.

2 day stay in Vientiane

There is lots to do. What to see in Vientiane? Well, you have many temples and Wats to start off with - That Luang, Wat Si Saket to name just two. That Dam and the Patuxai are worth a visit, of course, as are the national museum and the War Museum.

In addition wandering throught the town you see some excellent examples of old colonial architecture. A walk on the banks of the Mekong is always interesting. Then of course you have the Markets - The Old and New Chinese market, Talat Sao.

One thing I would certainly do is to go on a trip to Thanon. The area is very nice and you can have lunch on one of the many floating restaurants and while the time away.

2 day stay in Vientiane

We just spent 3 days in Vientiane and loved it. Lovely city to walk around tho%26#39; main sights not exceptional. Stayed at Lao-Orchid hotel - great value for money and superb location near river (if you stay ask there ask for upper floor room with balcony %26amp; view over Mekhong.. 5th floor if you can get). Our highlights of Vientiane:cocktails at Sticky fingers bar happy hour (closed Monday), pizza at le Provencal restaurant, walking round the city temples watching monks at work, meandering down the Mekhong river, Vietnamese spring roll and Lao beer at the Vietnamese stall on Mekhong; Russian market; Le Silapa french restaurant, foot massage at the Lotus near the fountain. See my posting on Green Park Hotel which includes details of our tour,including to the museum at ';Six Klick City';

Hi xxxAsia,

Thanks for your great information.

the Lao Orchid hotel sounds good , how much did you pay for room, do they have a pool?

Cheers,

Stewie.

I heard that Lao Orchid was up to $45 a night or so, its been redone and looks nice more of a nicer guesthouse with no grounds right downtown by the river,I tryed to stay there in march but they were full, callao

lao orchid does not have a pool, lane xang hotel has one I always like to get a jr suite at LX for $50 huge 2 room suite with 2 tvs big bathroom and a deck with pool and massage breakfast, and the management has always been very good to me , I was there during the mekong subregion summit and all the rooms in VTE were taken and he shuffled some things around for me so I didn%26#39;t get inconvenienced at all, very nice people there, VTE is a kick back town with not alot to do, if you stay down town just for a couple of days theres lots of shops selling to check out any kind of food can be had and a few good bars to visit, maybe check out That Louang, morning market %26#39;MALL%26#39;, kick back and watch the river flow....bob dylan, callao
