Local Crafts

I am very interested to purchase some local crafts when in Vientiane, weaving, basketry, woodcarving . . .etc. Besides the market, is there any nearby villages that is worth visiting for any of these crafts? How do I get there?

Thanks for help.

Opposite Talat Sao there is a Hmong market that is well worth having a look at. If you want some woodcarving, there is a place 10 minutes outside Vientiane that has some beautiful work. Mind you, it is expensive, but the quality is superb. Message me if you want further details.

Also have a look at the new Chinese market on the way to the airport. Tuk tuks will take you around.

Thanks Rufuscat, I have already emailed you.

Carol Cassidy has the premier weaving shop in Vientiane. While American herself, she has set up a business for laotian weavers, now in it%26#39;s 18th year (more or less) which both promotes and maintains the Laotian ';weaving art.'; 50 weavers are on site and visitors are welcomed to watch them at work. It is right in the heart of Vientian directly across the street from Monarch Bookstore. It is closed at lunch. Goods are on sale of course and very expensive, but worth it if your wallet is large enough.
