Remote school near Luang Prabang to visit?

Hi, We are travelling in Laos in July with our 2 young kids and a baby. We would very much like to visit a school and have our older son (7years) give a little show and tell about Australia as well as give stationary to the school.

Can anyone recommend a school we should visit and the best place to buy stationary they might need? Thank you

Joy, sounds like a nice idea, but the kids would not undestand what is going on. Primary school kids unless you are talking about Kittiesak or VIS in Vientiane, do not learn English. Secondary kids would not understand your son.

Stationery can be bought at Talat Sao in Vientiane if you want to make a donation to the school. Colouring pencils would go down well.

Thanks for your suggestion with the coloured pencils. Maybe we could bring a world map and do a mime thing - with afew koalas and books on our wildlife we might be able to have some kind of exchange....the language of laughter and connection I%26#39;m hoping for!

Thanks again!

You should call in to Big Brother Mouse when in Luang Prabang (they also have shops in Vientiane and Luang Namtha). This is a charity set up by an American publisher (www.bigbrothermouse.com) to provide text books for Lao children. They can arrange ';book parties'; whereby you buy some books and go to a school (I went to Lakphet Village, about 30 mins from LP) and present them to the children. It%26#39;s a lot of fun and the kids really benefit.
