My husband and I are in our sixties and still like to explore and travel to new places (South East Asia, a favorite). We are sort of middle of the road when it comes to describing the accomodation we like. Must have screens and a private bathroom... a fan or air-conditioning. Any ideas??? I see a lot of very cheap or very expensive rooms on the internet. We would like to book a room a least for the first night since we arrive around 8:30Pm. I would appreciate any reccomondations.
Thanks
Accomodation Luang Prabang.
Recently spent 4 enjoyable nights at 3 Nagas. It is at the higher end of the price range but not the most expensive. Very good location at the quieter end of the main street.
Rooms tastefully decorated and clean, good breakfast-only downside is noise on ground floor rooms from guests above on the wooden floors-it sounded like they were training a baby elephant every morning between 5.30 and 7.00!Best ask for an upper floor room.
Don%26#39;t bother requesting the vintage Merc transfer it%26#39;s permanently parked outside the hotel as street furniture .You will be sent the hotel shuttle bus which costs the same as the Merc and it is cheaper to take a taxi from the rank outside the airport.
Accomodation Luang Prabang.
Thanks Ipswitch, I checked out the hotel and it looks great. However, I think it%26#39;s not in our of budget ( cheapest for November $125.00) . We are looking to spend no more that US $50.00 a night. I had also read in another blog that the 3 Nagas has a great restaurant which we will try.
travlelbug I can suggest the Senesouk House %26lt;sensouk@laotel.com%26gt;
I did check out others in this price range that where suggested to me on this forum.
They all seem to me to be much the same. All fine.
Why I like the senesouk is a wat is directly opposite, of a morning you can sit on the balcony %26amp; watch the monks. I would suggest you request a front room with balcony (there is also one room on the ground level.) You can e-mail them %26amp; also, arrange a pick up from the airport ( of course e-mail again just before arriving, to reconfirm ) In February it was $5 but to prebook the pick up it is $6. The room $ 35 US
Yes there are so many guest houses. If you look on a map, I suggest not staying much further towards the peninsula as the senesouk. If you need to return to room, it is just far enough to pop back.
I had cooking class in LP 2 weeks ago with a couple who stayed at senesouk.I remember they were happy with it as well. But they did mention that because it%26#39;s so close to the Wat Sean you hear all the activities before 5 am. I passed by many times it looked very nice. But it was sold out when I got there.
Thanks. I have checked some of the recommendations and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Thong Bay?
Hi,
We have booked a bungalow at Thong Bay for December. As I have not yet been there, I cant tell about it more than that they were the only one to reply to my email enquiries!! To me it indicates that the hotel is well run and I can trust the recommendations on this forum.
I am looking forward to our visit there.
I can recommend Senesouk Guesthouse . I visit yearly L.P. and stayed there already 4 times . I booked already for September this year . The staff is extremly friendly and very helpful . Previously I stayed in Villa Santi , but I find Senesouk a much better choice and the rooms on the first floor with balcony and view to Wat Sene are the best, to relax there and see in the morning the Monks going on their round for the Morning Alms.
This part of L.P. is still very quiet and serene .

I can recommend Senesouk Guesthouse. I visit since 2000 L.P. yearly , in the first years I stayed at Villa Santi until I found Senesouk and found this a much better choice. The staff is extremly friendly and very helpful. The rooms esp. on the upper floor with balcony and view to Vat Sene are very nice , relaxing sitting there and see the life , watching in the morning the Monks on their Alms round and this part of L.P. is still peaceful and quiet. I will be in September there again .
We just returned from Laos and can highly recommend the Sayo River Guesthouse. It was excellent and there are rooms between $30 and $40 a night with fabulous private bathrooms and air-con, plus cable tv. I would recommend booking in advance as they are very popular. Make sure you book the one by the Mekong as they have another one on a different street.
The staff are great too and you get free Lao coffee to your room on request!
We also made the BIG MISTAKE of staying at Thong Bay on the recommendation of some forum posts....it is WAY out of town (an hour%26#39;s walk at least!!), was stinking hot (no air-con), overpriced....I could go on but it was a bad mistake. Luckily we found the Sayo and redeemed the rest of our trip!
Enjoy the Sayo!!
