Are there ATMs in Vientiane and Luang Prabang?

What type of currency do they spit out?

Hi Erniecat,

There are ATMs in both Vientiane and Luang Prabang. The machines are located where travellers will be so are easy to find.

The currency they %26#39;spit out%26#39; is the local Lao Kip.

But be warned, they only allow you to take out around 700,000 kip at a time. Sounds like a lot but it is only approx US$70!! We have ended up just going to an exchange house or bank and taking out a lump sum of US$400 (the max amount they allow you to take out) in kip.

I always feel better knowing there are ATMs available, even if they have a fairly small limit.

Another thing to note is that banks in VTE will also let you draw cash from a credit card - so if you%26#39;re desperate, that%26#39;s another option
