boat charter Huay Xai to Luang Prabang

I%26#39;ve heard that you are able to charter the slow boat for this journey (which is a mid range option between the slow, crowded backpacker boats and the much more expensive Luang Say). Can anyone advise a website or booking office or provide any info?

boat charter Huay Xai to Luang Prabang

Hi there,

I was just reading this blog about a boat charter, thought it may be of some interest to you. I, too have been researching for our trip next year and the charter idea sounds like a good one. Cheers

boat charter Huay Xai to Luang Prabang

we will be in Laos in July and are also interested in a slow boat charter any information would be appreciated...

We have just done the Luangsay trip between Luang Prabang and the Thai border. It was really brilliant especially the stop at Pak Beng Lodge and is worth every penny as the comfort of the boat and the crew support is second to none and the food aboard is absolutely delicious and immaculately clean (as far as we could see).

It helped enormously that their were only 7 of us and we had the luxury of lots of space. Frankly if their were more than 20 - which their was for the return trip back to LP - I would not be so sure. However, as an exercise in delicious inactivity, sunbathing, reading and watching the world go by and most importantly bonding with your travelling companions - from every walk of life - then this was second to none. The Pak Beng Lodge is just great, pretty luxurious and clean and the food there is also exceptional. The views towards the Mekong from our lodges were pretty amazing and to wake up to the noise of the river early morning, cicadas and the mooing of the cows outside ones window was quite something.

We saw the economy boats on occasions jam packed with people, no legroom at all, looking extremely uncomfortable and were relieved that we had gone for the more expensive option.

The speedboats are even worse in terms of legroom and are clearly very dangerous as we were constantly told of the dangers and the deaths and injuries over the years. How exagerated this was is unclear but obviously they are a very rash option and not for anyone over average height. One couple we spoke to who had survived this option complained bitterly of the agony of being cramped up with so little legroom for so long.
