vietianne to Vang Vieng

Hi,

In June I will be travelling in Laos with my family (husband and 2 daughters age 11 and 14 yrs old)

We were thinking of travelling to Vang Vieng from Vientianne by bus, and staying overnight.

I would like to know how long it takes and how much it would cost.

Can anyone recommend accomodation in Vang Vieng?

Thanks

M

From what i remember it is about 5 hours by mini bus, but i went in other direction though. Dirt cheap, probably about $10. We stayed in a hotel that was literally only opened that day (early Jan %26#39;06), right on the river, about 5 mins walk up from the more established one (don%26#39;t worry, it%26#39;s a really small place so will come across everything pretty easily. The place we stayed in was about $40 a night, I think this discount as %26#39;soft opening%26#39; but prob not too much more now. Fantastic rooms though, and and a brilliant view of the hills over the river.

Such a cool place, drifting down the shallow river in an innertube stopping off for cold beers along the way!

I work in an travel agency in Vientiane. Our company has VIP bus from Vientiane to Vangvieng, it cost 60 000 kip per person, it%26#39;s about USD 7. It%26#39;ll take about 3.5 hours.

Feel free to ask me anything

It%26#39;s about 200km from Vientiane to Laos. Vang Vieng is a very nice place for relax and you can take a bus in 4 hours which will cost you $7/person (best bus)

Regarding accommodation in Vang Vieng, I would like to recommend you:

- Tha Vonsouk Bungalow

- Nam Song Hotel

or

- Vansana hotel in Vang Vieng

Happy traveling

We have just been there and took a normal %26#39;VIP%26#39; Bus ... VIP meaning it had a toilet and air con but apart from that was a fairly old bus. I think it took us about 4 hours in the end to get from Vang Vieng to Vientiane.

We stayed in the Ban Sabai Riverside Bungalows and really liked it. Not sure if they have familiy rooms though.

Does it take the same amount of time to travel by road from Luang Prabong to Vang Vieng?

The Vansana is a very nice hotel and has a swimming pool, but you are looking at about $45US a night per room. There are many guest houses around and they are much of a muchness.
