Hi,
I am wanting to travel from Hanoi to Bangkok through Laos but i%26#39;m unsure of a few things. Namely what%26#39;s the best place to cross into Laos and where abouts should we be visiting. Then how do we get from Laos down to Bangkok.
Unfortunately we don%26#39;t have as long as we like and think we will be very pushed for time, so information on overnight travel etc. will be much appreciated.
We%26#39;re planning on spending just 6 days getting from Hanoi to Bangkok.
Thanks a lot.
Josh.
Hanoi to Bangkok through Laos
hi Josh,
Getting from Laos to BKK is the easy part. Travelling from Hanoi to Laos is fairly difficult, although my experience is from several years ago. I would suggest you fly from Hanoi to Vientiene - it%26#39;s a short flight. Then you can enjoy a bit of time in Vientiene, which is a lovely spot. To then get from Vientiene to BKK, the easiest route is to take a bus across the Friendship Bridge and then take an overnight train from Nong Khai to BKK. Hope this helps!
Hanoi to Bangkok through LaosThanks for the suggestion.
However i found a bus that travels from hanoi to vientiane and is overnight so that should save us accommadation and also give us long enough in Vientiane.
If anyone else is wanting to do this check out seat61 website it provided all the details.
It now looks like we will be staying around vientiane for most of our time in Laos where originally i wanted to travel down the Mekong from Luang Probang to Vientiane.
What is there to do in Vientiane, in particular can you do any of the river cruises?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Josh
Hi Josh,
Were you able to do this easily? I%26#39;m trying to do the same thing and would really appreciate any info you can provide.
Thanks,
Rebekah
if the bus to luang prabang is 10 hours the bus from hanoi to vientiane has to be 20 -25 hours so I think its a long bus ride, vietnam air and lao air fly vte to hanoi, cruises around Vientiane only one I know of is lane xang cruises which is a dinner cruise about 630pm that takes you up and down the mekong while you eat dinner , when the river is up you board the boat right where the food venders are on fa ngum road close to mekong deck restuarant, when the river is low you have to go down to KM4 to board there , its about $8 per person, callao
so travellers are you saying one can go by TRAIN from Bangkok to Laos then onto Vientam (Hanoi)???? is this cheaper than flying? granted to save as u sleep (sort of) on the train if its overnight?
The bus to Vietnam is about 22 hours. It will be a bit longer now that the rainy season is starting. This is not my idea of enjoyment.
Karen, ';No';, you cannot take an o/n train or any train to Laos. You can take one to Nong Khai. Then a tuk tuk or taxi to the train sation. Laos does not have trains. This has been discussed many times here before, and in fact there is a current thread on this subject. Use the search function.
The cost of a deluxe sleeper is dearer than flying to Nong Khai by Air Asia. Some pople seem to enjoy the adventure of a sleepless night on the train though - I don%26#39;t. Then you have to go through the border at the friendship bridge and take a taxi to Vientiane anyway.
yeah yeah i know i can only get to Nong Khai on a train...just checking on getting to hanoi..thanks anyway
