THE HOUSE also known as BananaBar in Luang Prabang / Laos

Dear Laos/Luang Prabang Travellers and Friends ,

I%26#39;ve been in Luang Prabang for 1 week less than 2weeks ago , a paradise captured between the Mekong and the Nam Khan river . . . . a true paradise !

Meeting up with my Belgium friends Wim and Robin who are running a new restaurant/bar : THE HOUSE also known as BananaBar beautiful located on the Phousi road at the Nam Kahn River side . . . with a nice terrace/garden where you can watch the monks passing by !

The food is excellent and European dishes are available on the menue aswell , the tapas are tasteful and there is a wide selection of wines !

I miss my Belgium friend . . . . I%26#39;ll be back in Luang Prabang very soon . . . drinking a cold Laobeer with to many icecubs as the local habbit wants it

And what is your financial interest in this business? I doubt you would be advertising it on this site otherwise. The best food in Luang Prabang by far is at the 3 Nagas, truly one of the best restaurants in this part of the world. (NY Times says so as well.)

That%26#39;s a nice coincidence ! I was also at ';The House'; or Bananabar only last week. I had a great time there too !! I loved the 2 guys who run it. There are many good places to eat and have a cocktail in Luang Prabang but this is the best. These guys really make the difference. They came up and talked to me and made me feel like home. Good food and clean toilets (not so easy to find in Asia ...) Music%26#39;s cool ! I miss it too and I will be back sure !

Funny how the 1 post new TA%26#39;s always are full of praise for a restaurant or guide!

Wonder how many more new posts from all over the World will be praising the BananaBar? !!

Would agree that 3 Nagas is pretty good but would also recommend L%26#39;Elephant ,Blue Lagoon and the new Arisai.

Have been to L%26#39;Elephant and Blue Lagoon and agree. Will have to try the new Arisai next time.

The menu at L%26#39;elephant looked more appetizing than the 3 Nagas (and the atmosphere did, too) so I chose to have my Christmas dinner there a few years ago and it was amazing!

these folks have also been spamming the ThornTree forum with similar posts, all from 1-post posters.

As suspected I doubt we will ever hear from them again -but at least there have been a few restaurant posts.

L%26#39;Elefant is more Western style. 3 Nagas is Laos style. They have an very good wine list and a good value tasting menu. Having said this, bth are worth a try.

I have a hard time paying $20 a plate for Lao food when I am in Laos, and after weeks of $2 meals, I decided to have a nice western meal at L%26#39;elephant. (The Nagas looked more like a ';fusion'; than authentic Lao food to me, but that%26#39;s just what was on the menu when I dropped in there...) Elephant had a very decent wine list, and I had a good bottle of French champagne there for Christmas dinner...

The House (aka Banana) is a great place to hang out. It%26#39;s a different atmosphere than the other %26#39;upscale%26#39; restaurants mentioned above (3 nagas, Elephant). There is a nice terrace overlooking the %26#39;busy%26#39; street next to the Kahn river. The hosts are true gentlemen. They are working on the menu and there is always something new to try. I%26#39;ve eaten in every restaurant and noodle shop in LPB multiple times and I think this is a great spot. Jeff
