Paypal and Hotels...

I would urge extreme caution in using PayPal to book hotels, I booked two bungalows in Vang Vieng and the only way I could get a confirmed booking was by paying the hotel in full using Paypal...

The Bungalows cost 126 USD paid by American Express via my UK PayPal Account...

The fees charged by PayPal equal a massive 24% they charged me 29.83 USD to convert 126 USD

My friend booked an hotel for 5 nights in Prabang he paid 265 USD and his fees PayPal Fees a massive 63.65 USD...

So if asked to pay by PayPal be aware of costs, they apply the charges after payment and DO NOT COMPLY with there own scale of charges or fees...

Paypal and Hotels...

I thanks for that, I have just last week booked using paypal for the first time. You had me concerned. Have you rung paypal ? I would double check.

I just rang paypal as I worried that they may deduct more or this 24% fee. They told me ‘no that’s it in total’ The vender wears the costs of using. ( yes I rang my bank too)

In OZ we are hit with high bank fees %26amp; chargers. For ex, I just did my sums %26amp; with my lowest cc ( they charge 2.5%) paypal was only $1.50 dearer. But I not know the conversion rate of last week so may be less.

BTW we also have a flat rate of $30 to make a bank transfer of money therefore I was thinking paypal was a good alternate for small amounts.

Has anyone else experienced this 24%fee?

Paypal and Hotels...

I am in rip off UK...

I went into the dispute procedures with Paypal and the 29.83 USD as a currency charge was correctly applied and there answer is this..

It seems as though I have not been charged for goods but as a cash transfer and using an American Express Card has incurred 2 lots of charges...

Needless to say I will never use PapyPal again....
