Hi there,
i just discovered this fabulous site and i would like to ask u something about my next trip to Laos in particular..
I%26#39;m going there in September/October and we%26#39;ll enter Laos from south coming from Cambodia and we have 10/13 days to spend in Laos. Looking at the map we are interested in seeing the islands in the Mekong (Don Khong) and of course Champasak,Pakse and the Bolaven Plateau but then my question is:
-is it worth to see also the ';middle Laos'; meaning Savannakhet, Heuan Hin temple and other temples or considering how many days we have, is it maybe better to fly directly to Vientaine???Is there something relly remarkable or not to be missed??
Thanks to everyone and sorry for my english..jejeje
:-)))

Hi,
Sounds like you have southern Laos pretty much covered. %26#39;Middle Laos%26#39; has a couple of attractions but it will take several days out of your trip by the time you visit them (recommend Khong Lo cave in Khammouane - 7km long cave you cab take boat trips through). With the short-time period I would recommend flying to Vientiane and exploring northern Laos (Vientiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang are the most popular destinations). Alternatively there is an overnight VIP bus from Pakse to Vientiane which takes about 10 hours.
Have a great trip,
Lee

If you will be down south, definitely spend a day or two in Savannakhet- some amazing temples and it%26#39;s a nice little town (I only had 2 days there and could have stayed anotehr day or two). The bus trip back from Savan. to Vientiane is about 10 hours so you might want to break up the trip with a day or two Tha Khaek, which is supposed to have some very cool caves...
There are flights to Pakse-Vientiane and back as above poster said or you could take the night bus. These have actual beds and pillows and are quite comfortable, but you will have to sleep in the fetal position if you are over 5%26#39;6';(like me!). The buses leave from Vientiane at around 8:30 and tickets were $16 when I went in February. You can buy tickets at any travel agency in town. Cheers!
