Thanon

Hi All

Sometime in May Rufuscat suggested a trip to Thanon, where you can have lunch on floating restaurants etc.

This sounded pretty good as i will be looking for a few trips to show off my skills [ ha ha ] with my new digital camera.

Looked it up on Google and found that it is the Lao word for '; Street ';. but nothing about a specific place.

Has anyone any ideas as to how i can find out more about this trip [ Rufuscat if you are looking in ]. Any ideas as to be more specific for google [ Have tried Thanon Laos and Thanon Vientiane ]

Hope someone can help as it sounds great.

Thanks

Gander.

Thanon

Well to start off with, its only a day trip. As I think I may have mentioned, you head down Kaysone Phomivan road and just keep going. You actually go past the casino. If you past Thanon, you will get to Thalat which is on the big Hydro electric dam. It is about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs past Thanon. You can do boat trips there and have klunch there as well. I took two Australian friends there on Friday actually.

Thanon

Hi Rufuscat

I have found something that sounds similar, Tha Ngon and Ban Tha Ngon It says that there is an agricultural developement project there and made references to floating restaurants. Anyway your directions sound good so i have got this trip on my short list.

Which brings me to another question. I am considering hiring a car and driver for the day to take us to these places. Do you have any reliable contacts in this area.?

I have also read that there is a tourist information office near the Bus Station. do you know if they arrange sightseeing trips, and can supply good maps of vientiane city and surrounds

Thanks

Gander.

There is a larg tourist office up from the Morning Market - going away from town, on the rhs. They sell maps. I think they also arrange tours.

I know there is a hire car place in town. I think its called Asian Car Hire, but don%26#39;t quote me on that one.

Thanks again

Hi

Me again. Just letting people know that the Car Hire company is actually called Asia Vehicle Rentals.www.avr.laopdr.com

I have been in touch and they can provide me with a car and driver to take us from Lao Orchid Hotel directly to our Hotel in Udon Thani for $80 US. this figure includes fuel and insurance and any other related bridge crossing charges. This sounds quite fair to me when i consider the convenience factor.

Hope this helps others also.
