Vang Viang recommended ?

I planned to stay in Laos for about 6 -8 days. Would a visit to Vang Viang be recommended ? Plan to go to Xiang Khuoung %26amp; Luang prabang thereafter.

Not for me. If you can avoid the drunks, the rowdies and the stoned backpackers, VV is lovely. There are beautiful karst landscapes, however it is hard to avoid the undesirables.

With 6-8 days I would spend time in Luang Prabang and Vientiane, (4 and 2 respectively). There is not that much time to see anything else.

Is it really that hard to avoid the drunks etc? We are planning to spend 3 nights there with the family....do you think that is wise or should we spend the bulk of our time (2 weeks) in LP?

I think 3 nights is too much; then again I think 3 weeks in LP is too much as well. Are you going to the Plain of Jars? Its well worth a visit. How many days are you spending in Vinetiane? I would spend at least 2.

If you are going to VV stay in a decent hotel and not a backacker special. The Vansana is great and has a beautiful pool.

Yes 3 days in XK is too much. 2 is tons. Spend the extra one in LP.
