Car insurance at the Friendship Bridge?

The last time we took our car to Nong Khai we needed to buy temporary Thai car insurance from a snack bar on the Thai side of the bridge. I think it cost around 300 baht, but it was a couple of years ago.

We have some guests coming next week who asked if they would have any trouble crossing the bridge with their rented car. Does any one know if the Lao side have a similar insurance arrangement (i.e. snack bar insurance, How much it costs, etc. Any potential problems?

Thanks,

Philip

Thanks Callao,

According to posts on ThaiVisa, it is not possible to take a car rented in Thailand over the bridge into Laos. Apparently, every car has to have its own passport showing ownership and rented cars are not allowed in.
