Thong Bay guesthouse in July - too hot without aircon?

Hi, Our family of 6 are considering staying at this guest house as it has recieved such glowing reviews. Our question is whether it will be too hot in July? We would be there for about 2 weeks. We are also hoping to use a pool for the kids at some point....

Do you think we should stay at this guesthouse? Or maybe stay for afew days and move somewhere else? The Apsara sounds lovely but the cost for 2 rooms every night for 2 weeks is a bit over our budget.

If anyone has ideas I would be very grateful.

Thank you!

Thong Bay guesthouse in July - too hot without aircon?

Hi all,

Anyone know how much for a triple room in this guesthouse? I%26#39;m looking for a clean and safe place for 3 single girls who travel in July.

Thank you

Joy this is too far out of town. You would need to take a tuk tuk in for dinner and one back again. Do you really want to do that?

Hello Joy,

Thong Bay GH is a nice place to stay, and it is not only me to say so : have a look on the review of this GH.

To answer to your question, I don鈥檛 think it will be too hot in rainy season particularly in Luang Prabang. However, I am not wrong; there are some bungalows with Air con.

Yes, it is true, it is a bit out of town. However, this is not a problem, only 5mns of Tuk-Tuk (20,000 Kip or 2.3USD) to go to the centre, your kids will love it ! Moreover you can also have your meal at the GH next to the river, it is wonderful.

Also, contrary to what you wrote, be aware that there is no pool at the GH.

But there is a very nice water fall with many natural pools, where I am sure that you and your kids will enjoy. Don鈥檛 need to bring food or drink鈥?you will find everything over there.

Enjoy your stay.

Does Thong Bay have western style toliets and shower? Also, this may seem like a silly question - but when we traveled to Belize, we realized our hotel did not have locks on the door. Does this hotel have locks and/or a safe?

Thanks in advance!

Regards

Thank you all for your advice and help. My partner and I have been agonising over whether to spend the bulk of our time there or not.....the distance out of town sounds like it would start to get annoying (yes the kids would probably love it...but 6 times a day for 2 weeks....mmm...). So, back to square one looking for a nice-ish hotel in Luang Prabang, quiet, 2 rooms, not too expensive ($30 approx per night), near another hotel where we can pay to swim in their pool...any ideas anyone? This is quite a challenge.

Thanks again for all your help!

Note that a previous poster said the guest house has its own restaurant on the river which the poster recommended, so you could probably have most of your meals there.

Thong Bay is lovely, we have stayed there. The bungalows are very nice, with all western amenities, have locks on the doors and are perfectly safe. We stayed at one that was right on the river front with a balcony overlooking the river: great views. We went down to the river and frolicked there, lots of children do that and young novice monks, but in July it is the wet season and the water might be too high.

You might consider staying there for some days of your stay, and even having the fun of bike riding into Luang Prabang if your children are not too young. To find a hotel near a pool where you can pay to use it you might consider finding a guest house near Muang Louang Hotel, but I don%26#39;t think the pool is as good as the ones in fancy hotels in town, which are generally not so conveniently placed.

July is hot and wet but not the hottest time of the year. Muggy. For other hotel options we found the travelfish website handy.
