Is Luang Prabang a MUST see? is it worth visiting? or could i find a simialr kind of place in Myanamr or Vietnam? Thanks karen
Luang Prabang
That is a very subjective question. Sure, it%26#39;s got its share of tourists nowadays, but it still is a quaint little town and has some amazing temples and a cool museum, and some other activities to occupy you for a few days. I spent 3 days there a few years back and would%26#39;ve liked to have stayed longer. Cheers!
Luang Prabang
Agree with Maneki. Is anything a MUST see? Machu Pichu? I know someone who hated it believe it or not. Angkor Wat? Its up to you, but you%26#39;ll never never know if you never go.
Spent 3 days there in January and loved every minute of it and want to return.
However it is very touristy (as are many of the ';must see'; places in Myanmar and Cambodia) and will eventually be swamped by tourists so go now, or soon,
before the magic disappears.
thanks. from what you have siad i am gona try my best to visit Luang Prabang....how about Ventiane?
Vientiane is a wonderful city, and unfortunately, folks don%26#39;t spend enough time there to soak up the atmosphere. Try to spend at least 2 days there.
Agree with the above post. No doubt there will be some who disagree, but they really do not know what they are talking about.
thanks so much! so 2 days in Ventiane! can u suggest what to see? do? and how many days would u recommend for Luang Prabang? and suggestions on what to do and see there are most welcome! i heard there is a monastery there? can one do a retreat? do u happen to know! thanks for yr input!!
In Vientiane-
Wat That Luang (temple)
Wat Sisaket (temple)
Shopping at Talat Sao Market
Drinking Beerlao while watching the sunset at one of the riverside restaurants
Dinner at one of the riverside restaurants
A daytrip out to Buddha Park %26amp; the Beerlao factory
Rent a bicycle and explore the city
I%26#39;d spend 3 full days in Luang Prabang, more if you want to see outlying temples and take some excursions
Thanks for ideas for Vientiane!
Do u have recommendtions for Luang Prabang too? hope so!
Do u know of monastery there?
Visa for Laos. Can i get that in Bangkok?
Would it be at all possibel for you to recommend some inexpensive (serious budget coming from South Africa) but decent places for boht Lunag Prabang and Ventiane.
Gosh i am asking u so many questions! appreciate your time and value your input!!!
The Lonely Planet is a good guidebook. get it and it will help you plan your trip, plus give you a whole slew of hotel info.
You can get your visa for Laos at the airport, upon arrival. Fill out the visa application form on the plane, and have a passport photo and $35 cash ready for processing as soon as you land.
In Luang Prabang, there are a zillion gorgeous temples to stroll around and take pictures of, there%26#39;s the hill Phousi which commands a great view of the town, you can hang out at the night market, you can take a day trip to the Pak Ou caves...for starters...Local travel agencies can arrange day trips, you can do this when you get there. Everything is pretty laid back.
