SR tio Vientiane

Hi there,

does anyone have some goood tips for an intinerary that starts at the bottom of cambodia and works its way up to laos? I am thinking a flight from SR to Vientiane may be the best way to get into Laos. Is this a common route? Or do many people go the overland way through Thailand? It looks like the Cambodia-Laos border crossing is a little remote... any experiences/suggestions?

I understand (not from first hand experience) that you can get a boat up to Stung Treng from Phnom Penh. Then its a bus to the border/4000 islands - which I have heard to be slow and not too pleasant or reliable. All of this needs verification - and I think LP Thorn Tree may have a few people who%26#39;ve gone that way.
