flying from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang

As an alternative to the 2-day boat trip, I have read that there is a Lao Aviation flight between Huay Xai and Luang Prabang. Has anyone taken this flight recently? Was it costly?

Hi - I tried to take it a few times late last year, with Lao Airlines. Its not costly, about $50 I think, but it is often cancelled whilst you wait in the airport because of cloud cover. The pilot needs clear skies to navigate over the mountains. So if you are short on time best to take the boat or bus via Oudomxai.

laura%26amp;ryan - the bus HouayXai to LP is about 3 times a day and the roads are OK, via Oudomxai. Takes ages though - better to overnight in Oudomxai or stay a couple of days for trekking or visiting Muang Houn
