Huay Xai to Luang Praband overland

Hello everyone,

I%26#39;m wondering if anyone has info on traveling from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang over land.

Travelfish has the following info ';There is a public bus to Luang Nam Tha which leaves at 9.30am and takes about 7 hours for B350. The bus then continues on to Oudomsay (four more hours, B450), and then Pakmong (B500 baht and another four hours) and finally Luang Prabang (B600 and another 1.5 hours).';

Is this the only bus route?

What are the buses like?

What are toilet facilities like?

Can we break the journey up and stop at Luang Nam Tha or Oudomsay?

Is there accommodation easily found in Luang Nam Tha/ Oudomsay?

What are bus prices like?

We are planning on being there in Jan 09 and the relaxing slow boat down the mekong river sounds more like slow torture to me...

Thanks heaps!

There is only the one bus route. When buy a ticket make sure it is to the major location. I had friends stranded. People buy right through, as tickets are very cheap,even if they are getting off earlier as these people get priority boarding. My friends were left waiting and didn%26#39;t work out what was going on for a while. People arriving after them wer3e getting on while they were asked to wait. They ended up having to catch a plane in order to keep to timetable.

You can get accommodation in Luang Tham na which is nicer than Oudomsay.

The road can be a bit iffy although it is supposedly improving all the time.

You can always fly to Luang Prabang from chiang mai or link from chiang Rai if neither of these options appeal.

Have a great trip. Laos is lovely
