Four of us, middle-aged but mostly active, are traveling in Laos in September, 2008. We will arrive in Vientiane from Cambodia about 9/1. We will have 3 or 4 nights in Vientiane, then make a one-night trip to the Plain of Jars. Then 3 or 4 nights in Luang Prabang, then fly out.
Specific questions:
1. What are the best things to do in and around Vientiane for 3 or 4 days?
2. What are the best things to do in and around Luang Prabang for 3 or 4 days?
3. What are we missing with this itinerary?
Thanks....Jeremyg38
Looking for suggestions on travel %26amp; activities.
Jeremy there have been a huge number of posts on what to do and where to go in both Vientiane and LP in the last couple of weeks. Rather than repost rather lengthy posts, I suggest you use the search function to look up these.
Pakse is worth seeing as well, but you can%26#39;t do everything.

Thank you Rufuscat! What I%26#39;m hoping for is suggestions outside of the %26#39;travel guide%26#39; standards; having read a couple of the recent ones we will try to %26#39;hit the highlights%26#39;. Sometimes someone has a suggestion that just %26#39;clicks%26#39; and we can enjoy something otherwise missed. Your suggestion in response to another query some time ago about enjoying a beerlao on the riverside will be followed; one of the great things about SE Asia is good beer and pleasant surroundings.
Hi Jeremy
I agreed with Rufuscat, as you are coming from Cambodia, you should spend time visiting the southern part of Laos, of course Si Pan Dong… in Champasack but also the Boloven Plateau…
In such case, forget about the Plain of Jar.
In Vientiane, if you want to visit a salt mining… traditional one…. Not touristy at all… but interesting to see… not far from Vientiane.
See you in September
